memo-circle-infoCreating Chat Summaries & Utilizing Chat Memory

Using the Chat Memory function to adjust, enhance, and progress the story.

What Goes in Chat Memory?

  • Literally anything you want.

  • Anything you put in chat memory will be treated as a higher priority part of the prompt sent to the LLM. For example, you can add details about your backstory with the character to enhance the scenario.

    • As an example:

      • Prior to the events of the story, {{char}} and {{user}} actually dated briefly, but had a difficult and messy breakup.

Chat Summaries

  • Never ever ever ever, ever ever use the auto-summary. It sucks and it's useless. We'll want to request a summary from the LLM instead.

    • Bump your context limit up to cover however many tokens have been used in the roleplay since your last summary. If you click into chat memory, you'll see (xyz messages since last summary update, abc tokens) — this is the limit you should set to to create your summary.

  • Request the summary using OOC commands.

    • (OOC: In OOC, please summarize briefly in bulletpoint format the events of the story so far, any major plot points, any information {{char}} has learned, and anything else you think should be retained in memory. Exclude any information already in the base prompt.)

  • Tweak that as desired, that's just a basic template for how my OOC prompts look. :)
